Child safety standards
Bower has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). It is banned everywhere in Bower: in pods, chats, photos, files, comments and profiles.
What isn't allowed
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM): any image, video or text that sexualises or shows the sexual abuse of anyone under 18.
- Grooming: contacting or befriending a child to sexually abuse or exploit them.
- Sextortion: threatening a child or pressuring them for sexual images, money or anything else.
- Sexualising children in any way, and trafficking or advertising children for sexual purposes.
Who can use Bower
Bower is for people 16 and older, or younger with a parent or guardian's involvement. Pods are invite-only: there are no public profiles and no search, so strangers can't find or contact anyone.
How to report it
In the app or on the web, tap Report on a chat message, on a photo's details, or on a person in a pod's Members. Choose a reason and add a note if you like. The person you report isn't told who reported them. You can also write to us at [email protected].
If a child is in immediate danger, call 000 in Australia, or your local emergency number.
What we do
- We review every report. When we find CSAE we remove the content and suspend the account, so it can no longer sign in.
- We report child sexual abuse material to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and the eSafety Commissioner, and keep the evidence the law requires.
- We cooperate with law enforcement and follow Australian child safety law, including the Online Safety Act 2021.
